The State of Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), the official economic development agency of Hawaii, awarded the contract to CanAm Enterprises, LLC, to be the official promoter of the Hawaii Regional Center.

The Hawaii Regional Center was originally designated on October 31, 1995 by the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to participate in the Immigrant Investor Pilot Program under Section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, and was reaffirmed by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on October 30, 2008.

DBEDT

The State's efforts to create jobs and to retain and attract industry are directed by Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), the State's official economic development agency.  DBEDT has been at the forefront of economic development for the State since it was created by Executive Order in 1963, which merged the Department of Planning and Research with the Department of Economic Development into a single agency, the Department of Planning and Economic Development (DPED), which was renamed the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) in 1987 and the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) in 1990.

Charged with the promotion of economic growth within the political and geographical orders of the State of Hawaii, DBEDT's mission is consistent with the highest policy goals of the investor program.  Designation of the Hawaii Regional Center will provide the DBEDT with an important additional vehicle to attract new capital to the State.  The Capital will be invested in a manner consistent with section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended (Act), and the legislative mandates of the investor program as interpreted by the USCIS.

DBEDT Programs

DBEDT provides the economic and statistical expertise that guides State economic development efforts.  It generates important information for business and industry about their markets and the economic forces shaping the future.  DBEDT, through its Research & Economic Analysis Division (READ), also runs the State’s visitor statistics program, which develops and distributes information on the roughly 7 million tourist and business visitors who come to the islands annually (http://hawaii.gov/dbedt).

DBEDT has a resource center for:
